Ecological Livability

Our Environment

Everyone has a right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The UN General Assembly has passed a resolution on 26th July 2022, encouraging nations, global entities, businesses, and relevant stakeholders to adopt policies fostering worldwide cooperation, facilitate capacity-building, continuously exchange effective approaches, and collaborate to magnify initiatives dedicated to implement "environmental agreements under the principles of international environmental law." The UN upholds that the right to a healthy environment is related to other rights and existing international law.

On the other hand, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in their website stated that many cities are already grappling with "environmental degradation, traffic congestion, inadequate urban infrastructure, and a lack of basic services, such as water supply, sanitation, and waste management." The ecological impact of cities is worrisome, potentially jeopardising the vital resources crucial for fostering economic progress and reducing poverty levels. Balancing economic advancement with the creation of sustainable, habitable cities stands as the foremost urban hurdle confronting Asia and the Pacific region at present.
