The World Heath Organization (WHO) said that any progress towards universal healthcare has stagnated since 2015, despite staggering spike in the population that faced "catastrophic levels of out-of-pocket health spending since 2000" in many countries. In 2021, this is pegged at 4.5 billion people not fully covered by essential health services.

Universal health coverage (UHC) ensures that everyone can get the healthcare they need, without worrying about money. This includes everything from staying healthy and preventing illness to getting treatment, recovering, and even receiving end-of-life care. In short, it's about making sure everyone can access all the healthcare services they require, whenever and wherever they need them, without facing financial difficulties.
