Late last year, the noticeable rise in authoritarianism worldwide has moved a large group of over a hundred civil society organizations (CSOs) and more than 400 individuals across the globe to call on the Geneva-based Human Rights Council to appoint a Special Rapporteur—an independent UN expert-- to protect democracy and reverse its decline. A call for cooperation to address climate change was represented by various country representatives, inspired by the Interfaith Statement signed by Pope Francis, Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, and around 30 religious leaders and representatives from a range of traditions. The Faith Pavilion at COP28 puts forth this Call to Action and they are still accepting participating groups and individuals to sign the petition. Check it out.
