Skills Set and Occupation Bias
Discrimination in the workplace occurs when a person or individuals are treated unfairly due to traits that are not related to their job or their performance, as well as their credentials. Employees who experience discrimination are generally judged based on their race, gender, religion, political views, nationality, social background, age, disability, HIV/AIDS status, trade union affiliation, and sexual orientation. This form of bias can arise in variety of work-related environments.
Skills set and occupation bias can deny individuals of their rights and opportunities. Discrimination can take on many forms and may be directly expressed or indirectly experienced by affected individuals.
